THE ANIMALS AT WINTERPAST

Here are a few recent pics of some of the animals at Winterpast Farm. Farmer Mary forgot to include the mini donkeys -don’t tell MABEL and CLAIRE!

Most farm visits include meeting, feeding, and holding a variety of animals in the front part of Winterpast Farm. Animals for holding usually include guinea pigs and bunnies. Very careful, well supervised visitors might have the opportunity to hold baby bunnies, chicks or ducklings. These are seasonal and are not always available. Farmer Mary does not allow every visitor to hold every animal. Some animals are former pets who just arrived and are not ready for certain laps. Others are pets who are staying at the farm while their humans are away. Farmer Mary decides who has a safe lap. Visitors are not allowed to open cages to remove animals and are not allowed to pick up chickens or ducks. We have had some chickens picked up and squeezed to death by poorly supervised not careful visitors.

Occasionally Farmer Mary takes visitors into the pasture to meet and pet the larger animals up close. This is usually later in the day or on a day with few visitors. This is not every day. Particularly well behaved and well supervised guests who are good listeners have the best chance of being invited to have a closer look in the barn and pasture. Farmer Mary also likes to take those who don’t endlessly complain about mud or poop.

On days when many farm visitors arrive without an appointment, when Farmer Mary’s time is wasted with having to ask visitors to re-park their cars more mindfully or in debate about the cost of admission at the gate then there simply is no opportunity for a barn or pasture visit.

If you enjoy your visit to Winterpast Farm and plan to tell your friends about it PLEASE ask them to first of all read “your visit” at www.winterpast.org which explains in great detail how to schedule a farm visit, lists exact food you can bring to feed the animals, explains in complete detail our admission (cash or check only) , explains how to park “at a pig” in our limited parking lot, asks that you NOT turn down the neighbors private road behind the barn even though your GPS tells you too….

If every visitor simply read “your visit” at www.winterpast.org then Farmer Mary could provide even more interesting opportunities to her visitors.

Thank you for helping to spread the word about our family farm/animal rescue. There are always volunteer opportunities for all ages (please read the Volunteer section of the website before asking) and we appreciate you spreading the word so Farmer Mary can continue to feed and care for all the animals at Winterpast Farm. Without visitors we will have to close the farm.

PUMPKIN THE GUINEA PIG

Meet PUMPKIN the guinea pig. Many people buy guinea pigs then give them up after they find out how just much they poop. Farmer Mary rents guinea pigs and bunnies for a week to help you realize you very probably don’t need to own one! Rentals help her continue to pay to feed and care for all the former pets living at Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo in Wake Forest NC. Read more at Pet Rental at www.winterpast.org. And please spread the word so fewer bunnies and guinea pigs are left in boxes at Farmer Mary’s gate!!!

EARS UP OR DOWN?

Looks like one of the almost one month old baby bunnies just can’t decide if ears should go up or down! Both parent bunnies at Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo in Wake Forest NC are mini lops with ears that hang down and babies ears can take up to six months to fully drop. Pretty cute either way!
