On Saturday while taking visitors on a tour of the back pasture and woods, Farmer Mary found another emu egg. The group watched as the male emu patiently covered his egg, using his beak to lift individual leaves and bits of pinestraw.
The original two eggs are still in a little pile by the back fence…we are not sure if they will all be combined into a nest. Every day brings something new to see at Winterpast farm!
Farmer Mary has a few of last year’s eggs (cleaned out) available for sale $10
Come see the emu nest soon and meet and pet a friendly emu. They will eat an apple slice, small carrot, cereal or bread out of your hand.
“Justiin Beiber” the peacock put on quite a display Saturday afternoon. A visitor was able, at last, to capture his truly amazing colors.
Farmer Mary considers hatching this particular peacock egg her greatest pleasure amongst farm animals (so far)
Justin will happily eat out of your hand if you bring a cracker or piece of bread.
Sorry, but the hedgehogs can’t be out in the cold, so they cannot visit the farm today. We hope Tomorrow will be nicer, so check back and hopefully they will visit after 2.
