Justin was one of twelve eggs Farmer Mary purchased nearly three years ago. He was the only egg that hatched and visitors to the farm have watched him mature and grow more gorgeous over the past few years. A visitor too this photo a few days ago.
here he is with his duck brother over a year ago. When he hatched he became the foster child of a Muscovy duck and was raised with her 21 children. Watching a lone peacock growing up in a duck family was interesting…When “Mom” said get in the water (a wading pool) the baby ducks would clamber in and Justin, who had the longest legs, would gingerly step into the water…even now in the hot months he will occasionally stand in a water bowl or wading pool. That is not normal peacock behavior.
last summer he had a few “eye” feathers and he proudly displayed them.
Last summer Justin had an infected foot, so Farmer Mary had to catch him to examine Nd give him some medicine.
Here is Justin as a newborn just moments after hatching!
He has come a long ways!!!
Come meet a peacock at Winterpast Farm soon!
