This afternoon around 4, friends and family gathered to celebrate a 40th birthday. Children had a chance to feed and hold some animals until dark, then everyone moved to the back pasture where they enjoyed a bonfire, roasting hotdogs, making s’mores, hot chocolate, glow bracelets…
Two kinds of chili and pulled pork sandwiches, cornbread, chips…Farmer Mary can run an electric cord to the back pasture to provide light and music and to plug in crockpots.
Farm dog, CHARLIE, patrolled for dropped hotdogs 🙂
The weather was chilly but the rain held off and a light sprinkle of snow fell just as we were packing everything up tonight.
Farmer Mary is happy to help you celebrate for any occasion. Make plans for a family and friends bonfire at Winterpast Farm soon!
It has been a busy day at Winterpast Farm. Farmer Mary took most of the bunnies and guinea pigs indoors last night since it was so cold and she has been bringing them back out, adding more hay to each pen, getting maternity pens set up for STAR and MIDNIGHT the very pregnant goats….
A family came to visit and some of them accompanied Farmer Mary on the forest walk and look what we found!
The very first emu egg of the season. Last year the first egg was found on november 29. Come see for yourself!
Later in the day another family enjoyed discovering the big green egg.
On Sunday a regular egg buyer came for her usual dozen and got a surprise treat..a walk in the forest to see the new egg.
Can’t match that fun shopping for eggs at a grocery store!
Come see for yourself.
These visitors yesterday had fun in the back pasture with EMILY and OSCAR, the emu.
Bring treats for them and they will eat out of your hand! treats they like include grapes, cereal, dry dogfood, raisins, kale, apple slices…
The mature males, JUSTIN and JOSEPH, have been displaying their long tsils the past few days. The males molt the long “eye” feathers every year in late summer and have just now regrown them and boy do they like everyone to see! The molted feathers are for sale for $5 each which is the peacocks contribution to Winterpast Farm.
This great photo was taken by a visitor just a few days ago.
Meanwhile, the baby peacocks born last June are growing fast. Farmer Mary can tell that one is a male (seen here closer to you in the photo).
The babies are nearly as big as their Mom at only 7 months old.
The peacocks will eat cereal, dry oatmeal, raisins, grapes and other food out of your hands. One recent visitor managed to pick up the female baby peacock for this great photo.
HENRIETTA is our smartest chicken. She rides around on the donkeys or LUCKY the llama and keeps her feet warm by sleeping on their back!
