JUSTIN is our oldest male peacock. Farmer Mary hatched him from an egg in her incubator almost 5 years ago.
This is the time of year when JUSTIN has grown back the long fancy feathers he molted last year. He is displaying them daily getting ready to try to impress the female peacocks during the season of peacock love.
This year he has some competition. Our new young male has grown his first fancy feathers.
When you visit Winterpast Farm be sure to take a peek behind the peacock and see the amazingly complex support system the males have for those long fancy feathers.
The fancy feathers are called “eye” feathers. Some studies indicate that female peacocks like the males who have the most eye feathers.
Farmer Mary was given a sheep a while ago. All her friends had been killed by coyotes. She has been pretty shy.
Today she (and her husband, our BAA BAA black sheep) had a baby boy!
Farmer Mary decided to name the new baby MARTIN LUTHER and the mama sheep, who was nameless, will be ALBERTA named for the human MLK’s Mother.
