One benefit of showing up at Winterpast Farm on a gray drizzly morning with your boots on and not complaining about the weather is that Farmer Mary might invite you to search with her for emu nests in the back pasture. Early farm visitors found three nests today with 5, 2, and 4 eggs which became truly fun math addition! A visitor took these great boot photos.
The emu at Winterpast Farm petting zoo have just begun laying eggs. Usually the female lays about 20 in a year, always in the winter. The male is supposed to set on the eggs for 55 days but he never has here at Winterpast Farm. A very limited number of fresh emu eggs are available right now for $25-great truly unique gift for a foodie friend!
Farmer Mary will be taking farm visitors to see the nest at very certain, quite limited, times on open days. She can’t be ten acres back (the eggs are near the back fence line) while visitors are waiting at the front gate to enter. She will post specifics about that very soon when she figures out how to be in two places at one time!

All of the former pet guinea pigs got a good deal of feeding and brushing and loving in laps today at Winterpast Farm petting zoo in Wake Forest NC. The beautiful weather brought some farm regulars and alot of new farm visitors and some out of town guests to Winterpast Farm today.

Save toilet paper, paper towel and gift wrap tubes and donate them to Winterpast Farm. Farmer Mary fills them with hay to give to all the bunnies and guinea pigs at Winterpast Farm Petting zoo in Wake Forest NC. Some like to chew the cardboard and getting the hay out keeps them entertained.

We had a nice busy day today at Winterpast Farm petting zoo in Wake Forest NC. BARNEY the almost 17 year old Dachshund was pooped after following Farmer Mary around and he spent alot of the afternoon resting in his Barneymobile that Farmer Mary up-cycled from an old double jogger stroller.
Farm visitors enjoyed meeting the five pregnant goats, holding bunnies and guinea pigs, feeding our pretty peacocks, learning about emu and just spending time together with family and friends outdoors on this gorgeous winter day. We met alot of out of town visitors who will definitely be back to visit Winterpast Farm to see their favorite animals next time they are in town.
Farmer Mary hopes this lovely weather holds for the entire winter! Guess we will have to wait and see.
