Farmer Mary heats her old (1730’s) home with a Central Boiler whole house woodstove. While outside just now removing ash and adding wood, she made a little snow bunny and what is supposed to be a snow guinea pig. If you want some wood ash to add to your gardens or compost just ask. We have plenty to share!

Emu nest update: Farmer Mary found a fresh (slightly warm) egg and one that had split. She is taking them both inside and she will post pics later today of the split one as it thaws. The parking lot at Winterpast Farm petting zoo in Wake Forest NC and Ghoston Road out front are all pretty icy. Very little traffic and a friend reports lots of cars in the ditch along New Light Road just behind Winterpast Farm. Farmer Mary will post some open dates and hours once we see some melting here.

Farmer Mary just went out in the way back pasture to check on the emu. The one nest she had left covered in pinestraw is covered in snow with just part of one egg peeking out. It is obvious a pair of emu slept very closeby. Emu tracks crisscross nearly the entire ten acres.
Several people want to buy an egg and try to hatch it. This is MUCH more difficult than normal chicken eggs. However, assuming we get more fresh eggs after the snow melts perhaps Farmer Mary will have some emu eggs to sell for these experiments.

Someone who just dropped off their dogs at Winterpast Farm for a vacation said driving was really bad. They were happy to be heading south.
