NO DAISY! DON’T EAT THE EMU EGGS!!

DAISY the polka dotted pig ( who outgrew her former home) was very curious about the emu eggs at Winterpast Farm petting zoo in Wake Forest NC. She followed a group of farm visitors recently as Farmer Mary took them on a tour of the emu nests way in the back pasture of the ten acre farm. Happily DAISY tried one of the eggs but didn’t manage to actually take a bite!  Farmer Mary will be posting a short video of DAISY and the emu egg at Winterpast Farm on FB and at winterpast_farm on Instagram.

Sleeting at Winterpast farm right now (almost 10pm) following some light rain since about 6. Farmer Mary is hoping for some pretty snow. Be watching for some interesting winter farm photos in the morning!

Assuming no one will venture forth tomorrow, but text Farmer Mary is you want to visit. The bunnies and guinea pigs are available for holding and feeding over this cold period in our new heated space and Farmer Mary will be heading out to count the eggs in the nest tomorrow. She is always happy to have company along for pasture walks, especially when we have emu eggs! Text her at 919-244-1800 after reading “your visit” at www.winterpast.org if you can get here safely.

EMU EGG UPDATE

Farmer Mary decided to bring the emu eggs inside tonight during the extreme cold so they won’t freeze. These buckets are from two separate nests-one with 4 and one with 2 eggs. The third nest had a freshly laid egg late this afternoon bringing the total up to 9 eggs and making it the most active nest. When Farmer Mary went to get the eggs one of the emu was at that nest so Farmer Mary didn’t want to annoy him or her by just removing the eggs. She added some pinestraw over those eggs to help insulate them. Meanwhile the buckets of eggs are in the new heated garage space and are available for purchase and for farm visitors to hold for photos. Farmer Mary has scheduled several pasture walks each day to take farm visitors on a walk to see the emu eggs in the nests. This is a once a year opportunity. Be on time if you want to come along! If you can get here we will be here! WHICH ONE IS REAL?

The Frizzle breed chicken was posing today at Winterpast Farm petting zoo in Wake Forest NC with a very strange new bird who never moves.

Farmer Mary spent all day with her daughter and some great volunteers finishing the heated garage space and moving all the bunnies and guinea pigs there where they will all live for the next few super cold days. She is hoping for a pretty snow and for the power to stay on! So far we have just had a tiny bit of off and on rain.
