THOMAS the turkey does NOT like the new male peacock who is hanging around Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo in Wake Forest NC! Farmer Mary thinks THOMAS must have caught his wife, TURKEY LURKEY, admiring the new guy’s incredible tail display. How is a male turkey supposed to compete with that?!

The season of peacock love has begin at Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo in Wake Forest Mc. Late this afternoon a second mature male peacock showed up and was trying to attract our peahens. Our male was NOT happy! Farmer Mary hopes to lure the new guy into a pen soon so he can leave a DNA sample 😉

The IndianRunner duck family is enjoying this rainy morning at Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo in Wake Forest NC. (Photo by a farm visitor yesterday on a nice sunny day!) Winterpast Farm is closed for visits this morning until the rain stops.
Indian Runner ducks are tall flightless birds. Some people call them “bowling pin” ducks because of their shape.
Our male has Mallard coloration but that does not make him a Mallard duck! The female Indian Runner can lay up to 200 eggs a year which is more than most ducks. Duck eggs are great for baking!
The Indian Runner females rarely nest, preferring to drop their egg and keep going so Farmer Mary is always looking all around on the ground for their greenish eggs which are a little bigger than chicken eggs. Whileyou are here on a farm visit feel free to pick up eggs you discover laying on the ground and bring them Farmer Mary to out into cartons. We can always use some help here!

Farmer Mary has spent the morning getting warm water to all the animals at Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo in Wake Forest NC. This is sweet BETSY who has been recovering from an emergency c-section. Today Farmer Mary let her out of her recovery pen to stretch her legs a while. Nursing mothers and pregnant goats were first in the list to get warm water this morning! This blast of winter weather has all the water bowls frozen solid today.
Farmer Mary is hoping we will be back to the lovely Spring like weather of last week very soon!
The bunnies and guinea pigs are in the warm garage space but they prefer their larger outdoor hutches and will be happy to return in a few days.
Winterpast Farm will be open Friday for St. Patrick’s Day. Wear green! Maybe CATY the last pregnant goat will have a baby boy this week who we can name PATRICK!
