This photo is from this time last year with BARNEY the ancient Dachshund, CHARLIE BROWN the sheep and Farmer Mary when the back pasture of Winterpast Farm was in full bloom. It’s blooming again right now so come visit and take a photo or two of your family and friends. Pretty soon Farmer Mary will now it all down since this flower is Bitterweed which the animals won’t eat and she doesn’t want it to go to seed or it will shade out the rest of the pasture plants.

CARAMEL CREAM and CINNAMON TOAST are both former pet guinea pigs now living at Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo in Wake Forest NC. They love to sit in laps and enjoy being brushed and fed. We have plenty of deep shade here for sitting with animals or for a picnic.

A baby chick hatched this morning at Winterpast Farm during a fun farm field trip by summer campers from Scotland County Parks and Recreation. A few of the young campers were scared when they first arrived but Farmer Mary soon had them busy learning how to feed the emu, using the cool catapult to feed the turtles and fish, holding bunnies and guinea pigs and baby chicks.

Farmer Mary has a flock of Bantam (that just means small in size) Japanese Fantails at Winterpast Farm. They are mostly black and white in color and include some frizzles (that mean they have curly wings since their follicle is curved just like humans who have curly hair). They came to Winterpast Farm as baby chicks from a breeder who had too many. They are now for sale for $10 each. Great little backyard birds, although they don’t tend to lay eggs daily (which can be good if you don’t want too many eggs). They are all very beautiful and they eat quite a bit less than regular sized chickens.
These chickens are just now old enough (and smart enough) to start to eat out of our farm visitors hands. They like whole wheat bread, cheerios, grapes, kale, romaine lettuce, very soft apples, watermelon and more.
