About once a month Farmer Mary hears a farm visitor (of a huge variety of age) who is interacting with some of the animals at Winterpast Farm say it’s the “happiest day of my life”. This photo shows a farm visitor who was so happy to feed lots and lots of chickens all at one time; Farmer Mary encouraged her to hold kale between her knees to get even more attention.
On reflection Farmer Mary realizes that not many people (if anyone!) get to hear that regularly as a celebration of their chosen life work.
Farmer Mary wasn’t allowed to have animals of her own when she was young although she did briefly take home a baby chick that hatched in her kindergarten class. She named it “Happy” and it followed her around her neighborhood in Schenectady New York.
Now Farmer Mary has more chickens than she can possibly count plus peacocks and ducks and emu! And mini donkeys, sheep, goats, and lots of bunnies and pigs! Farmer Mary loves to share her love of animals with farm visitors at Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo in Wake Forest NC.

Several people have asked if Farmer Mary has holiday Gift Certificates available at Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo in Wake Forest NC. We do! And they are truly unique and one of a kind!! They are hand painted (by Farmer Mary) rocks!
On the back is written “Return to Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo for one free admission”. The ones with one animal are $10 which is the normal cost of farm visit admission. Rocks with two animals are $20 and are for a person to bring a friend along.
Great gift for Grandparents to give their Grandchildren who love visiting Winterpast Farm! Nice to slip into a Christmas stocking too!
These hand painted rocks all have Santa hats and Christmas lights which make them different from Farmer Mary’s handpainted “Marketing rocks” which are available for farm visitors to take and hide away from the farm. Hiding rocks helps to spread the word about our little farm!
Farmer Mary doesn’t have a “marketing budget.” She spends all the money she makes just to feed and care for all the animals here at Winterpast Farm! FaceBook wants her to pay to send her farm posts to her own followers!

Farmer Mary is hoping for NO SNOW and no freezing cold later this week! Moving all the smaller animals to the heated half of the garage at Winterpast Farm is NO fun. Fingers, tails, hooves and beaks are all crossed for continued nice weather here in North Carolina!
Donations of blankets, towels, pillowcases, hay bales, fleece blankets, tarps, plastic sheeting all happily accepted as is help winterizing. Staple gunning layers of thick plastic ( then covered by burlap coffee bean bags for a bit of rustic charm and more warmth) to bunny pens is a big priority right now. We have alot of bunny pens!

Farmer Mary welcomed this new male bunny to Winterpast Farm and got him settled into his new home (already decorated for the season!) just before the rain began. Be thinking of some good name ideas for this sweet boy bunny!
We have had steady rain and some sprinkles here at Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo in Wake Forest NC. We are posted “open” but please remember that Farmer Mary can’t keep benches dry on a rainy day and bunnies can’t get wet and all the bigger animals will be out of sight in the old tobacco barn. You might want to pick a nicer day to visit Winterpast Farm …like tomorrow when the sun will shine and we are open for visits from 12-5.
