ZOO CLOSED FOR RAIN TODAY

Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo will be CLOSED FOR RAIN TODAY. Please pick a nicer day to visit. This is the rain falling off Farmer Mary’s home into pools she has set up for the ducks to enjoy. She just dumped them out so the clean water can refill them.

THE POND AT WINTERPAST

Farmer Mary has been working on the pond at Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo in Wake Forest NC. A new stronger pump went in today and the diving board waterfall is flowing. Volunteers helped gather more rocks from the back forest to line the edges. Farmer Mary plans to plant sunflowers and other tall flower seeds tomorrow ahead of the rain coming our way. She has plans for several different types of floating islands for plants that will hopefully keep turtles and fish from considering them floating restaurants. If you or a friend had excess aquatic plants please donate them here.

Thank you for supporting a local small farm family animal rescue.

THANKS WHOLE FOODS!

From left, nursing goat moms BUTTERCUP, PRIMROSE and FRANCES are enjoying a yummy variety of fresh greens donated today from Whole Foods to help Farmer Mary feed all the animals at Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo in Wake Forest NC.

Whole Foods sent a team of volunteers this afternoon who helped Farmer Mary start fixing up the pond which will be open for turtle and fish feeding soon. The pond is an up cycled in ground swimming pool that Farmer Mary has been naturalizing for several years and which is home to many former pet turtles and fish who have been donated to Winterpast Farm.

Thank you for supporting a small local farm family animal rescue.

UPCOMING PHOTOGRAPHY EVENT

This is a new event that Farmer Mary is going to try at Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo in Wake Forest NC.

Please don’t come that day asking to hold a bunny. This is a back pasture only event for those who enjoy outdoor photography. Come back another time for a bunny holding farm visit.

The emu and donkeys and peacocks and some sheep and goats will be in the back pasture and all can be photographed and interacted with. You may also carefully explore the ground level of the old tobacco barn.

No feeding animals while you are in the pasture. You can feed them through the fence as usual before or after.

No hanging out allowed in the front bunny area at all except to feed animals along the fenceline by the barn. Farmer Mary will be in the back pasture.

Plan to park mindfully and to pay the usual $10 cash admission at the box at the gate then let yourself in (and close the gate behind you!) and then to head straight ahead to the back pasture where there is a gate.

Don’t let animals from the pasture into the front area. Don’t let animals from the front area into the pasture.

If this isn’t the kind of farm visit you want then come another day. Children must be within arms length of their adults at all times from the moment you enter the first gate.

No chasing of any animals or climbing on the wood piles please.

If you can’t watch your children please don’t attend this event. Farmer Mary reserves the right to ask anyone not behaving well or not following the few safety rules to leave.

Thank you for supporting a local small farm family animal rescue.

Farmer Mary would love if you texted her your favorite pics from this event that she can post on the farm FB page, website or Instagram.

“YOUR VISIT” SUMMARIZED

Because people continue to show up on days the zoo is closed or with no idea that we have a cash admission price, no idea how to park mindfully, and without food to feed the animals, here is the top of the “your visit” page at www.winterpast.org. Farmer Mary really wishes you would go read the entire section.

1. Admission is $10 for all ages. Tiny babies in arms that Farmer Mary will not interact with do not have to pay. Cash. Cash ONLY-Farmer Mary has had way too many bad checks returned lately!. No credit cards. Please be ready to pay on arrival. No change is available. Please respect our admission price. No change is available. Please respect our admission price. Please be prepared to pay on arrival. No credit cards. Please do not plan to debate our admission fee at the gate.

2. Our parking lot is small so park CLOSE together and pull in close to the plywood pig faces marking parking spots. The address is 12936 Ghoston Road, Wake Forest NC 27587. Located near Falls Lake at the end of Six Forks Road at Highway 98.

Make an appointment to visit. Park at a pig. Pull up close to the parking pigs. Park mindfully of others. Please don’t leave trash in the parking lot. There is a trashcan right there. If the lot is full do not park blocking the gate. Park on the road in front of the farm with all four wheels OFF the road.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Do not go down the neighbors private road behind our barn even if your GPS says to turn!! This makes Farmer Mary’s neighbors very angry as it should.

3. Check open hours posted on website or facebook page then TEXT (please do not call during open hours since Farmer Mary will be busy with visitors.)

Please text to schedule your visit. Please text only between 8am and 10pm. Farmer Mary will not return texts made at 6am or midnight! Please text only between 8am and 10pm. Farmer Mary will not return texts made at 6am or midnight!Farmer Mary likes to know when people are coming so she can be available near the gate. She doesn’t want to be ten acres back fixing a fence when you arrive!

Please don’t text “can we come Thursday?” PLEASE BE SPECIFIC to avoid endless back and forth texts. For example you could text “group of five moms and six kids this Thursday at noon for picnic lunch and tour?” Farmer Mary is busy and cannot chat on the phone. She DOES NOT hang out on FB all day long. YOU will be very happy if she doesn’t spend all her time on the phone while YOU are visiting. Please do not text to ask if you can visit on a day the posted schedule says the farm is closed. Please read the schedule first. Text. Text. Text. 919-244-1800.

Please text to schedule your visit. Please text only between 8am and 10pm. Farmer Mary will not return texts made at 6am or midnight! Please text only between 8am and 10pm. Farmer Mary will not return texts made at 6am or midnight!

Basic questions about visiting are ALL answered below.

4. BRING FOOD FOR FEEDING THE ANIMALS! Long list is farther below. Short list is kale, collards, romaine lettuce, saltines, wheat crackers, whole wheat bread, plain cereal (any but plain cheerios are most popular), carrots, celery, green beans, thinly sliced apples, grapes.

Farmer Mary tries to have $5 mixed buckets of food for sale and sometimes has sleeves of crackers, cereal or corn in baggies available for sale. You will have more fun with more animal food! Please do not allow your children to take or beg animal food from other visitors buckets. Most visitors who choose to are able to meet, feed and hold bunnies, guinea pigs, chicks when available, chickens, baby goats and whatever else is small and cuddly.

Please keep in mind the size of the animal and don’t give a huge carrot to a baby goat or half an apple to an emu and expect them to be able to swallow it. We have had instances of choking and near death due to poor feeding choices made by visitors. Always simply think before you feed.

5. Yes there is a bathroom (outdoor composting toilet)and hand washing (sink and hot water at the barn)

6. Please plan to keep a very close eye on your children while you are here. Including while they are on our hammocks and especially while they are holding and feeding animals.
