Mealtime at Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo in Wake Forest NC. This group of chicks are about 5-6 weeks old and have recently moved from a smaller brooder to one of the big empty maternity pens where they will stay until they are big enough to join the free ranging mature chickens and roosters.
🐓They eat chick food and get occasional treats like dry oatmeal and finely diced carrots and apples and romaine and kale.
🐓Winterpast Farm will be open tomorrow for visits from 10-5. You can’t just drop by! Several families have stopped by just today and we are posted closed. You must make an appointment as Farmer Mary has very specific mandated covid limits to how many people can be at the farm at one time. Find the open days and hours schedule at the website blog (wee.winterpast.org), the Winterpast Farm Facebook page or on Instagram (winterpast_farm) and then text Farmer Mary to request a specific date and time for a specific number of people. Chicks are hatching (under the barn sink!) at Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo in Wake Forest Nc.🥚🐣🐥Farmer Mary has a sweet one eyed hen who just loves to make a secret nest and then set on her eggs under the barn sink. Today the eggs started to hatch and this chick was half stuck in its shell and being stepped on so Farmer Mary took it to care for. It has since come out of the egg and will be fluffing up under a heat lamp in a hastily constructed baby nursery in a chick brooder.🥚🐣🐥
🌧Rain has closed the farm to visitors for the rest of the day. The farm will be open next for visits on Monday.
