Throw Back Thursday -the Farmers Daughter (and two of her three brothers) out by the former pool that Farmer Mary has since upcycled into a pond home for unwanted pet turtles and fish at Winterpast Farm Petting Zoo.
Farmer Mary first met Elizabeth at age 6 when she took part in a “Give a Russian orphan a vacation” summer program. She and her brother Alex spent the summer at Winterpast Farm and then Farmer Mary found out what their future held:
-Elizabeth would be warehoused with other special needs adults at age 9.
-Alex would be let out the door with no skills or even a coat on his 12th birthday (Russia in November!) and statistically be dead within six months.
Farmer Mary decided to adopt them and sold her car and spent all her savings. At that point the orphanage said Elizabeth would never count past 3.
Elizabeth is now heading towards her second year at Appstate this Fall as part of the Scholars With Diverse Abilities Program and she will continue to be a part of the Marching Band Colorguard team. (Guess she learned how to count!)
The Farmers Daughter is home from AppState for the summer earning her Fall tuition working at the zoo and with pet sitting. She also is available for away events. Read more at the Birthday/Mobile Petting Zoo Pages at www.winterpast.org.

Farmer Mary hopes (and prays) that Elizabeth and all of the other former pets, other special needs animals and elderly animals now living at Winterpast Farm will be able to live out their natural lifespan at Winterpast Farm.
