This is the male peacock at Winterpast Farm showing off his rapidly growng tail feathers. Last year he grew long “eye” feathers for the first time at age 3. Then he molted his long beautiful feathers after the mating season ended. Oddly he had six medium length feathers on his left side not fall off during the molt. Farmer Mary sells the long feathers to help feed all the peacocks and other animals at Winterpast Farm petting zoo in Wake Forest NC. Today he was showing off his new feathers to the peahens. You can see a video of him at winterpast_farm on Instagram or at Winterpast Farm on FB.
