Farmer Mary is ready for sunshine to melt all the snow! Frozen water bowls, frozen stuck gates, filling the whole house woodstove… There are lots of extra winter chores that keep Farmer Mary from getting some maternity pens set up.
Lucky we had CARSON who was a very young male goat here at Winterpast Farm petting zoo who was our Daddy goat last summer. It took him a while before he spread his charms with our goat ladies. Usually by now we would have several new “kids” (did you know that is what baby goats are called?) here at Winterpast Farm. All the goat ladies are getting round tummies but Farmer Mary hasn’t seen any real udder development with milk filled teats. Those are the big two signs of impending birth.
Thankful that this snow didn’t collapse any maternity pen roofs since Farmer Mary hasn’t gotten around to reroofing the several pens that had that problem last winter. New ideas for non collapsing roof designs are always welcome! Anyone who wants to help reroof and set up the birthing pens is also very welcome once this snow and cold clears. NOTE: some active farm volunteers get baby goats and lambs named after them!
Hope you and yours are all safe and warm! #snow #ncsnow #winterpastfarm #sunshine
