Farmer Mary was out by the Pond at Winterpast tonight feeding the fish and she saw a turtle outside the water. It is a female Yellow Slider former pet someone donated to Winterpast. Farmer Mary checked with her friend Michelle Tilley who owns The Traveling Tortoise and Michelle says the female turtle is thinking about laying eggs! The female will dig several holes using her rear legs and finally settle on what she considers the perfect nest to lay 6-10 eggs. The eggs hatch in about 3 months. The baby turtles, called hatchlings, will stay in the nest for the fall and winter seasons. In the spring they will emerge and enter the water. Farmer Mary will be keeping an eye out for eggs.
