The emu have four nests now, which is unusual. Farmer Mary actually saw the female lay an egg last week!

Usually by this time of year the female has laid about 25 eggs and the male has pushed them together into a nest. Then he sits and tucks them in. Ideally he would set 50 days til they hatch but the male at Winterpast Farm, like most male emu, doesn’t set long enough. Each year Farmer Mary hopes for baby emu.
When he doesn’t set long enough, eventually Farmer Mary will blow out the eggs and sell them. Last year an interior decorator bought several for her clients. There are many ways to display an emu egg.
