THREE EMU NESTS

One benefit of showing up at Winterpast Farm on a gray drizzly morning with your boots on and not complaining about the weather is that Farmer Mary might invite you to search with her for emu nests in the back pasture. Early farm visitors found three nests today with 5, 2, and 4 eggs which became truly fun math addition! A visitor took these great boot photos.

The emu at Winterpast Farm petting zoo have just begun laying eggs. Usually the female lays about 20 in a year, always in the winter. The male is supposed to set on the eggs for 55 days but he never has here at Winterpast Farm. A very limited number of fresh emu eggs are available right now for $25-great truly unique gift for a foodie friend!

Farmer Mary will be taking farm visitors to see the nest at very certain, quite limited, times on open days. She can’t be ten acres back (the eggs are near the back fence line) while visitors are waiting at the front gate to enter. She will post specifics about that very soon when she figures out how to be in two places at one time!

If you want to visit Winterpast Farm petting zoo and meet all the animals please read “your visit” at www.winterpast.org which explains in great detail admission, how to park at a pig, how not to go down the neighbors private road behind the barn even if your GPS says to turn there, and lists food you can bring to feed animals.
